Candlesticks Today, Memories Tomorrow

Updated: Nov 2, 2020

Farewell Partners is pleased to introduce Agnes Galas, designer and founder of UrbanRIP. Read below for Agnes's journey into the creation of a unique and lasting keepsake for your loved one's remains.

Traditional urns can look and feel creepy in a home, and they don't integrate naturally within a home’s environment. After my sister lost her baby to stillbirth, she wanted to keep his cremains and his memory at home, in plain sight, yet private at the same time. Searching high and low, we couldn't find an urn that felt like it truly belonged in today's home. I decided to crack open the taboo on death and address the lack of modern-options for cremation.

Using solid bars of US stainless steel, I designed a small vault-like urn in the shape of an egg. An egg symbolizes the beginning of all life forms ...a seed with a promise of rebirth and hope. Next, I designed a candlestick that would secure and support the "one pound" egg-urn, because candlesticks have a natural place in our lives …candlelight offers comfort and warmth. In the spirit of versatility, I made all the components of the Candlestick Egg-Urns interchangeable and stackable, and to keep the concept discreet; I included a private placement below the base for a nameplate.

After being in the market for just over a year …to my surprise, our Candlestick Egg-Urns were not only purchased for the “immediate” purpose of sharing a loved one's cremains, among family members and friends. Many are being purchased to be used and enjoyed today, as beautiful and timeless candlesticks, and someday; they’ll be gifted to family or friends …to be filled with memories.
